Project Towards No Drug Abuse

Project Towards No Drug Abuse (TND) is a research-based, effective, interactive classroom-based substance abuse prevention program that is based on more than two decades of successful research at the University of Southern California.  Project TND targets high school youth, ages 14 to 19 and focuses on building three factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, violence-related behaviors, and other problem behaviors among youth, namely:

  • Motivation factors (i.e., students' attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and desires regarding drug use);
  • Skills (social, self-control, and coping skills); and
  • Decision-making (i.e., how to make decisions that lead to health-promoting behaviors).

The project includes 12 classroom-based sessions, each of which is 40 to 50 minutes in length. The program was designed for implementation over a four-week period (i.e., 3 sessions per week). However, if you need to spread it out, you could implement it twice a week over a six-week period on the condition that all lessons are taught.
